Imagine a world in which knowledge is certainly not free, a world wherein a single company rules with an iron fist, a world where no words can be spoken against your government as everything around you slowly rots away. Welcome to Gaia, welcome to Midgar.

Seven years before the events of Final Fantasy VII, Midgar was at it's peak. The Shinra Electric Power company dominated much of the world, with only Wutai left within reach. It is during this time that most profit is splurged outside of the company on everything from biological weaponry to the beginnings of a hopeful Space Programme. One day, even the stars might bleed Mako for the gaping maw of the power industry.

Yet, despite the mass amount of money and wealth being distributed to those on the top of the company, the poor live in absolute poverty and squalor. There is a simple line that segregates the classes very effectively; - A large plate suspended in the sky. On the top live the rich on a glorious floating city, able to see the vast expanse of what Shinra has given to them. Beneath live the impoverished, the forgotten, the proles whom Shinra cares little for. Everything is run for profit, those without anything receive nothing.

However, it is not a world of freedom. Propaganda leaks from every lip, lies spread so easily by the mouths of those unwilling to ask otherwise. Shinra is always right, it is always glorious and it always improves. It has never committed a war crime and it always works in the interest of it's people. The mantra goes on, read forth by a shrill women on the Shinra International News. To rebel against the company will have you executed or marked as simply never existing. Beware the Turks and other branches of the secret police, because they will find you, and if they catch you, they will kill you.

Yet one organization has begun to rise and turn its head against Shinra, the terrorist organization, AVALANCHE. The dice are set in motion, and rumour has it that they are funded by none other than Vice President Rufus Shinra. It is always good to have something the people can target their hatred at, is it not?

War still strikes Shinra's side as it wages its epic struggle with Wutai. It is the very last civilization of any significance that stands in the way of Shinra holding complete world domination. Yet the other side is waning, and the end of a 10 year war is finally looking possible.

So which side will you take? How will you survive in this Orwellian nightmare? The choices are yours, the cards will be dealt.

We are a Pre-FF7, AU site. Our plots shall be member driven above all. Our main drive is to ask, 'what if this happened'? What if Corel never burned down? What if Wutai never fell? Only such events are possible if we take a step back and begin to set in motion the ways in which Gaia will be shaped forever.
